What happens if a volcano erupts underwater
One-third of the magma that comes from breaking up underground is under the sea.
Closer to the sea, if a volcano erupts in shallow water, it will form a new island by erupting rocks and lava on the surface with sufficient force.
Many of the seabed volcanoes are in deep water.
2200 m. The water below boils as the noise rises and behaves like a highly complex liquid with the properties of both gas and liquid. Volcanoes erupt black clouds of black minerals almost silently, and lava erupts in rows of pillows rather than a stream.
